Sketch It Out! January Edition for Club CK

My scrapbook pal, Ashley Horton, has been hosting a fun sketch challenge over at Club Ck. You might recall the post I did about it a few days ago. I am so excited she has invited me to co-host with her. I began sharing and posting my work on the internet in a large part due to the encouragement of the friends I made at Club CK. Many of them have sent RAK's my direction and sent me little pick me ups when I needed them. It's nice to give something back to that community once again. I figured since I am now a co-host, that I best share my take on Ashley's sketch.

A Box Full of Sweet Awesome by Christy Strickler Supplies| Patterned Paper, Alphas: My Little ShoeBox;Brads: Making Memories; Other: Embossing powder, glass beads; shared with Layout linky Love at the purplemailboxblogspot.com

I had two photos, which is what the sketch called for. However, one of my photos was horizontal. To compensate, I used two vertical mattes and layered the photos over the top.Overall, my layout stays true to the sketch.

I did experiment with some embossing powder and double sided tape. It was a new technique shared in the Creative Jumpstart videos. My embossed tape didn't work as well as the example. It tore and broke very easily. However, I still felt I could use it on my layout. Even bad attempts have good merit. The color and the texture worked well with my layout.

Some might say it's odd to use flowers on a boy's layout. In this case, the flowers and Asian lanterns added to the theme of the layout. We had won a lucky koi shaped rice cake and bought a lot of Asian candies when we attended Chinese New Year festivities. These are photos of my son enjoying some of the candy and the layout compliments the one I shared yesterday of the Lion Dance.
