Sketch It Out!

January2013sketch1.CS.jpg

Every Friday, a sketch of the week is posted over at the Scrapbook News and Review Magazine blog. I shared another sketch that I created for yesterday's post. When I create a layout, I do sometimes use a sketch. If I do, I use one from another person or website. The majority of the time, I create a layout simply by manipulating the placement of the photo and the page elements. I don't draw my own sketches and then create my scrapbook layout. I reverse engineer the sketch from a layout I created.

Today's sketch comes from a layout I created for Get It Scrapped. The placement of my photo and page elements was dependent upon the size of the photo and the orange scrap of paper that looks like a frame. The photo and that frame created the main focus of my layout. Everything else had to be proportionate to their size and to be arranged to continue to draw focus to them.

In 2013, you can expect to see Sketch It Out as a new regular feature on my blog. It's the name of a challenge over at Club Creating Keepsakes. My friend, Ashley Horton,  has invited me to share in the challenge with her as a host and sketch artist. I am adopting the name for my blog feature and plan to share the sketches I create for the challenge as well as sketches I create for Scrapbook News and Review magazine. I will also share tips and tricks for using sketches and how you can adapt them to your own personal style. I hope you will join in. Sketches are a wonderful creative jumpstart.

If you'd like to share your love of the Club CK Sketch It Out challenge, you are welcome to grab this badge and proudly display it in your blog sidebar or your signature.

Meanwhile, Ashley just posted the sketch for January's challenge. Participation will enter you in a chance to win an RAK from Ashley. You have until January 31st to enter.
