Hurricane Warning!

Weather. We live with it everyday. Sometimes it catches our attention. Sometimes it just blends in and becomes part of the routine. Whether you notice it or not, it's part of the everyday and it's something you should start documenting.

In a recent assignment for get it scrapped, we were challenged to document our weather. I chose to document our hurricane preparation. I have always lived in a region that experiences hurricanes. What has changed is how we prep for them. When I was little, I can remember my mother creating x's with duct tape across the windows. We didn't have money for shutters or plywood. So the duct tape was supposed to help keep shattered glass from going everywhere should the window break. We also needed only a few days food supply. Where I now live, I need several weeks of food and water on hand, just in case.

These little nuances may not seem like much, but it does document a different time. With the world being what it is today, my husband's job could take us to a different region. My son could could grow up and find a job in a place without hurricanes. So while we now experience their possibility every summer, I may potentially have grandchildren who will never know one of these storms except through my layouts.

Hurricanes aren't the only weather I should be documenting. I love afternoon thunderstorms and the cool breezy days of autumn. Documenting the weather you love will give your family a peak into who you are.

Whether it's storm preparations or your favorite type of day, documenting the weather is part of your everyday existence. I invite you to sit down and make a list of the weather in your area. Even if you don't see discernible changes in the weather, it might open your eyes to how much the area you live changes from season to season. After all, you and your loved ones might not always end up living where you are now. Even if you do, how you handle the weather may change from generation to generation.

  1. I agree, I should do more weather pages and the things I love about certain kinds of weather. Love your warning flags and the way you made the wind blow on your background!
