Get It Scrapped: Juvenile Prints

The word juvenile is defined as something related to the characteristics of a young child or intended for a young child. It can also be used to describe immature behavior. There are certain objects or patterns that come to mind when you think about the word Juvenile in the context of clothing or even home decor. I think about gentle woodland creatures in bright colors or blends of floral patterns. You can use these visual associations in a symbolic manner on your scrapbook layouts.

Juvenile prints are very lighthearted in nature. Many times, we have positive associations with these whimsical patterns so they add a feeling of warmth and love when used on a layout. These patterned papers from Bella Blvd. help set the tone for this layout. The bright colors capture the energy of my son and Dixie. The patterns and the colors together hint at the loving relationship between my grandfather, the puppy and my son. Using crochet flowers and wood veneer bits reinforce this.I also like to handstitch on layouts with Juvenile prints. It's not as precise as machine stitching and supports the carefree feel of the patterns.

It's not uncommon for these prints to be associated with a specific style or even a specific age group. However, using them in a meaningful way will make them a supply that any memory keeper can use regardless of the subject's age. Look for colors and patterns that accent the story you want to tell with your photos. Choose techniques or embellishments that suit your style but that also support the ideas within your story.
