Getting photos of a teenager isn't always easy. They are more independent and on the go, often without you. So I took full advantage of being able to take photos of my son during his recent birthday.

He was sure caught off guard by the gift his dad has chosen for him. My son was ecstatic about his new Surface tablet. You could say I had a second opportunity here. I decided to use some love themed supplies to show just how much my son loved his gift. I balanced the love themed supplies with grid paper and technology themed paper. It's all comes together and supports the story well.
I seem to prefer lightly layered clusters recently. I like that the heart cut files allow you to see through to the layers behind them. I made several clusters on the page which featured the cut files either between or on top pf the layered cluster.I placed the clusters to form a visual triangle around the photo.
Several themes can be used on one page when they support the overall story line. To help them feel like they belong, search for common ground. In this case, the color palette of both themed lines made it easy to bring them together onto one layout.

Amanda Robinson Studio: Crossword Background
I will admit it. Homeschool has been keeping me busy. I hope to be settled into a routine soon and be back to sharing on my blog and website on a more regular basis. Today, I have just a quick share for you. It's a free cut file from Amanda Robinson Studio.

Patterned Paper, Tape, Sequins, Acrylic, Wood Veneer: Studio Calico; Letters: American Crafts; Glitter Glue: Ranger; Stickers: Sassafras; Cut File: Amanda Robinson Studio; featured in an ARS blog post
I had several ideas for the Crossword Puzzle cut file. Initially, I wanted to put small objects in each of the boxes. I also considered making a title within the crossword blocks. Though I liked those ideas, I also realized that I loved the tone on tone effect of the white crossword puzzle over the text background. I kept it simple and allowed the crossword puzzle to just be one of the layers.

Sandcastles
When my son was little, we made it a point to take him to the beach with the main goal of making sandcastles. It's one of those events that repeat every summer in my scrapbooks. I will admit to liking themed beach products to tell the story. However, I also want something unique to differentiate one summer from another. The beach themed cut files from Amanada Robinson Studios definitely fit the bill.

This particular set of cut files also comes with a PDF of printable designs. I cut one of the printable 3x4 cards into a square and used it for my title block. The cut file is simple, yet it immediately adds themeing to non-themed patterned papers.
I almost used this cut file with some photos of my son playing in the sandbox in the backyard. It's certainly one of those cut files that can be used in a variety of layouts despite the fact that it's themed. I cut this in kraft paper to connote a beach theme. If I had cut it in a different color paper, I could have used it with photos of my son building with blocks or legos.

Tide Pools
It's the last day of the month. Can you believe it? June sure swept by fast. It was a lot more productive for my creativity than prior months. I am beginning to feel at ease with my creative process again. When that happens for me, layouts come together quickly and I love what I have created. Tide Pools was a recent layout that I just adored.

I started with the cut file as my inspiration, then I chose the photo to work with it. I wanted to imitate the groupings of tide pools on the beach. I used themed paper and die cuts to help set the scene.

Summer is Coming!
The breezes slow down and the heat is left to sit. The pool is finally comfortable to swim in again. One wouldn't think that a pool in the Caribbean would have cool water, but it does. Our pool sits in the shade and if the evening before was cool, then chances are, the water is quite chilly. We know summer is coming when the sun warms the water back up.

We start checking the water sometime in May. This year was no exception. The water had warmed and we enjoyed our first swim of the season.
What events herald the coming of Summer for you?
