Awesome Ladies Project: May Edition

The end of last month was incredibly busy. There was the upcoming excitement of iNSD and then there was the Avengers: Age of Ultron Release. I neglected to share my monthly layout for the Awesome Ladies Projects. Let's amend that, shall we?

This was a quick page comprised of some mostly older stash items. I wanted a bold graphic look to go along with the story of my son and his temporary tattoo. I stuck with mostly blues and greys to connote ink but added some yellow and orange for contrast. This particular page is pretty self explanatory. I added a small amount of journaling later on,but it didn't need much.

The birthday themed kit really drove the creation of this particular layout.(see more about that here) I modified the Awesome Ladies project sketch to include 3 photos instead of two and shifted things around just a bit in order to accommodate all of my embellishments.

Awesome Ladies Project, March Edition

It's the last Friday of the month which means it's time to participate in the Awesome Ladies Project!As usual, I haven't really put in a lot of thought about the project I want to make today. The last Friday of the month always seems to sneak up on me.

In January, I finished sewing a set of coasters. In February, I chose to work on hand stitching this wooden owl. The project was simple and I created the owl quickly. He is supposed to be a Christmas ornament. However, he is lightweight enough that I think I can use him as an embellishment on a holiday layout.

I had bought the owl ornament on clearance shortly after Christmas from our local fabric shop. The problem I often find with projects like this one is that, despite it being a quick project, I don't set aside time to do it. This poor owl might have found it's way to a drawer and been forgotten.  Setting aside a few hours to work on him for the Awesome Ladies Project was a good thing for me. It felt good to use the kit and now I have a great embellishment or holiday gift.

Each month, there has been a sketch challenges for the Awesome Ladies Project. I completed this layout for January's sketch. It felt good to use up scraps from my Cocoa Daisy kits and to mix in a few pieces of older products.

I definitely should do a better job of preparing a project for the last Friday of the month. My goals this year are to art journal more and to learn to crochet. I am not sure I am prepared enough to accomplish one of those in today's busy schedule( another argument for being better prepared). At the least, I will work on the February Awesome Ladies sketch or one of the challenges for the Paper Issues Crops. Let's see next month if I can work toward a project relating to my goals.

The Awesome Ladies Project, February Edition

During the last Friday in January, I set aside a little time to work on a creative project. It's one that I started weeks ago, but that I really wanted to finish. Something a bit different from my usual memory keeping. I quilted a set of coasters.

You may have spied a few of these before. I have shared them on social media. I have worked on them off and on, mostly as a a means to keep my hands busy while recording episodes of the DigiScrap Geek Podcast. My hand stitching isn't the best, but luckily the coasters are of a pretty forgiving design. They will look lovely on my living room side table and should see a lot of use.









Tonight, I will be participating once again in the Awesome Ladies Project. I haven't decided what to make yet, but I am looking forward to chatting with the other participants. Perhaps I might just finally start making art journal cards for my Project Life pages.

The Awesome Ladies Project: Black Friday Edition

Once upon a time, a very long time ago, I worked in retail and had to work on Black Friday. I hope I don't ever have to do that again! I far prefer my current option: scrapbooking with friends in an online crop with the ladies over at Get It Scrapped. This is our second year of cropping on Black Friday and I hope it becomes a new tradition. It just so happens that this Friday was also the day for the Awesome Ladies Project. The goal of the project is to set aside two hours a month to work on something that makes you feel awesome. I definitely had no issues setting aside a few hours to work. I made two layouts while chatting with friends. I think though, that in the future, I might set this day aside specifically to art journal.

I found myself happily layering products in and around the photos. The photos are a bit yellow despite my editing in Totally Rad Labs. They were actually a lot more yellow and dark. I considered printing in black and white, but I felt like the photo of Jujubee streaking toward her new catnip bird didn't look quite right. So I stayed with the color photos. I used bright colors to compensate.

Each month, I try to complete at least one layout from the Scrapbook Coach classes at Get It Scrapped. This layout is based on a lesson for Product Play. I didn't exactly follow the steps to a tee. In fact, my layout might seem more of a lift rather than one that followed the instructions. However, I really enjoyed the design and the opportunity to create something a bit different from my normal fare.

The Awesome Ladies Project

I've been meaning to join in since I first saw this one posted. It happens on the last Friday night of every month. It just so happens that tonight is the night.It's the Awesome Ladies Project. SO what exactly is it? You pick a project that makes you feel awesome. You share photos of the project while you work on it with the hashtag #awesomeladiesproject on your favorite social media. You can even link up with the founder of the project, Kristin, on her website. It's just that easy.

So what's on the agenda for me tonight. Well, currently, I am pretty excited about the Fourth of July. I have pulled out some older photos of my son when he was little enjoying some backyard fireworks. I have got my JBS Mercantile July kits all ready to go. I haven't scrapped much recently and I feel like I deserve a night of memory keeping. What about you? Will you be joining us?
