JBS Mercantile: Three Wishes

When my son was little, he had all kinds of cute saying for various things. My favorite saying was his phrase for the word delicious. If something was yummy, he would tell us it was Three Wishes. I wanted to document this particular phrase. I knew the perfect photo when I saw it...my little boy eating some corn on the cob.

Get It Scrapped: the Overprint Look

Looking at inspiration from Pinterest is one of the best ways to find new ideas to use your stash. You can find current trends which will help you choose product by color, texture or pattern. You don't need new supplies, just an eye for the right visual cues.

Recently, I made a layout for Get It Scrapped with inspiration based on overprint techniques. Before I could begin the layout, I had to decide what materials to use. I first headed over to the Get It Scrapped Overprint Pinterest Inspiration Board. As I looked through the images I made notes of what I wanted to achieve. The images in the board were full of bold colors in sheer layers. How could I achieve this with scrapbook product?

I decided that vellum, washi tape and transparencies would be the perfect products to achieve a blend of bold color placed in layers. I chose a bold patterned paper as my background and then began building the layout. The layout is built in the same manner as any other layout, except that I use sheer elements throughout.

When using Pinterest for inspiration look for visual cues to help choose the right product. Those cues include: Use of color, use of pattern, and how those elements are placed within the design.

Get It Scrapped: Layering a Photo

I print my photos at home. Sometimes, I print one twice. Perhaps it was too dark the first time. Or maybe I want to make an everyday plain shot look a little special. That was the case with a photo of my cat in the laundry basket.

This particular photo wasn't taken in the best light. Despite photo editing with rad labs, I considered not using it. However, I really liked it. My cat is just so cute! To make the plain photo more interesting, I printed it twice, fussy cut Jujubee's image from one print and then layered it over the original. I used chipboard as a spacer between the two cat images. The chipboard helps the image retain it's shape while raising the image.

In March, I was a guest teacher for Get It Scrapped photoplay e-zine. I shared some of my techniques, but I also learned quite a lot from my fellow instructors. I hope to incorporate more photo play ideas into my layouts.Do you play with your photos? Share some of your creative photo play with us in the Get It Scrapped Gallery.
