Welcome to the July Blog Hop for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge! You should have arrived here from Angela's Blog. If you are lost or arrived here first by mistake, hop on over to The Counterfeit Kit's website to find the right path. I hope you enjoy all of the projects being shared!
If you had come to me last month and asked me which papers from my stash would be used to scrap our family Fourth of July memories, Floral prints would definitely not have been on the list. Yet here they are on this next page! I got the idea from the counterfeit kit club challenge. If you don't know what it is( though most likely you do if you are hopping along)... The idea is to scraplift a kit from a kit club using what you have in your stash. One of the kits I saw had a lot of blue and red floral papers in them. Since flowers are not always easy to use on a page for boys, I felt this would be a great opportunity to use them. Oh...and would you believe there are travel themed items on the page too!?!? The journal spot and the tab sticker on the corner of the photo are from travel collections.

Originally, this was going to be a page about sparklers. However, I kept looking at this photo of my son and a sort of, deeper meaning manifested itself. He doesn't have the "trying too hard, sicky sweet smile" that he has had lately. It's the real him...just sweet and pure. So I journaled about that. The title for this page comes from a song by Bob Marley called "three little birds" which is the current challenge at Scrapping the Music.
I did manage to make another page about the sparklers. We have not had any at the fourth for several years. So it was a nice treat for my son to have some and to share the fun with friends this year. Once again, the floral paper came through for me. I think it gives it sort of a vintage, yet warm feel to the page.
Sketch Inspiration #229 diamond Stickles otherwise, everything use are scraps are from the above layout |
I printed out my photos in wallet size. They were so nicely done on the photo paper, that I trimmed it down and used it as a collage style block. It was a HUGE time saver. My rub on alphas did not go on perfectly. I used a black marker to fix the letters as best I could. The "f" is still a little wiggly though.
The next time you are feeling a little blue about not having the right themed papers in your stash, check out a kit club or the counterfeit Kit challenge. It just might give you some ideas to help you rethink how to use products you already own. Now it's time for you to hop on to Emily's Blog.
Two super pages. The first with subtle white stitching is just gorgeous (and doubly so when I read your thoughts while creating it) and the second page is wonderful for including so many photos. The red/blue flowers work really well on both pages. Great counterfeiting!
ReplyDeleteamazing photography of the sparklers.
ReplyDelete2 wonderful layouts
I love both of these pages - such a great use for these flowers and flower paper. You're right, it's unexpected but works so well. thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWell I love both pages, but the second is my favorite. I will be scraplifting it for sure!
ReplyDeleteWhat fab pages! I love the stitching and think that your paper choices were spot on. I often end up putting my rub ons on a separate piece of card for just that reason - I don't trust my old ones!
ReplyDeleteBoth pages are wonderful. I like that you made the flowers out of denim.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing 4th of July layouts!! Thanks for sharing, these both look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI think those papers are perfect for the 4th of July! I like how the first page morphed into a page about your boy! Beautiful work, and great job on the challenge!
ReplyDeleteI love your take on the sketch challenge-both pages turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI am loving both of these pages! Thanks for playing along with us at scrapping the music this week!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this paper looks great for 4th of July photos. I like the home feel of it as opposed to the forced look of really strong red, white and blue. great job on both layouts.
ReplyDeleteI love July 4th pages! Sparklers are so fun too. Great compliments to the pictures with the flowers.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love how you decided to change the title and journaling to go with the photo of your son...and a great way to use the Scrapping the Music song Three Little Birds for this challenge. It really is a very innocent and priceless photo of your son. Love it! Thanks so much for playing! And then love how you did another layout just about the sparklers. You think like I do when I scrap.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sweet tribute to your son. I LOVE it! I have a daughter that does the "forced" smile very frequently, and the moments that I get a "real" smile are so special...so I completely understand your feelings and meaning. Wonderful job, and thank you so much for playing along at Scrapping the Music!! <3
ReplyDeleteOh wow, great papers and flowers and stitching, oh my! Love these pages!
ReplyDeletelove those denim flowers - great LOs.
ReplyDeletelove the flower additions...goes well with super cute red paper..and yeah, sometimes we don't want the "say cheese" photos!
